News and Updates .:.Behind the Scenes 9.4.08Posted by Cultred on 2008-09-04 20:42:00 UTC in category Website UpdatesAnyways, straight to the facts. What we will cover in today's Behind the Scenes:
Many decide to make forums instead of websites. They need a forum software to power their forum. Some popular ones include phpBB, MyBB, Simple Machines, and vBulletin. Now you need a host. Some will get the ZIP file off the software provider's website and upload it, making it so that it is privately hosted on yoursite.com/forums/ or whatever. phpBB would never work, since it needed a certain mbstring thingamajig or whatever. One day, I was looking at a Webmasters section of a now forgotten website. It said that MyBB was one so good it was almost like having a vBulletin license. Obviously, it's about $165 USD for a vBulletin forum, so that is a heck of a good deal for a free forum. I tried using the ZIP file since no host actually hosted MyBB forums. Then, my good SmartFTP Client stopped uploading. After my return from hiatus, the program was deleted and re-downloaded. When it started working, I uploaded MyBB. It worked!!! MyBB's ACP is very similar to that of phpBB3 but I just tend to fell like I have more control. I still have to transplant the forums and categories. You can now see the forum by using the link in the drop down menu under "official." Now for the To-Do List. Many people tend to use lists for this. I think that you shouldn't. Lists explain the main ideas and the reader doesn't seem to get all the points. So, I'll explain in paragraph form. My To-Do Lost includes doing things like making forums and categories and getting our new forums all set and open for posting. Another thing is that I need to complete the more detailed About page with all information and the complete truth. I also failed so far in my quest to finish the GSC Walkthrough, the biggest hole in my list. I also have another thing where I increase my activity on other forums and help increase advertisement. My friend CPMAN increased advertising by writing an advertisement on a half notecard and he puts them in random people's lockers (giving us a funny laugh). I am thinking about also using this method. I need you peoples' help. You good-at-signatures people make pretty advertisements. Off the advertisement topic, I also want to make the Protect Your Work guide more complete and make a Past Layouts page. I made a page on Deprecated tags and want to put it on the NavBar. Phew, long post, eh? ASP IncludesPosted by Cultred on 2008-08-30 20:15:51 UTC in category OtherFor all you pesky webmasters out there just looking for ASP Includes, there is a guide for you! Go right to the Includes guide for the new addition and you guessed it... ASP Includes! All for now,
Cultred I FINALLY Got It Working =) & Behind the ScenesPosted by Cultred on 2008-08-28 19:25:19 UTC in category Website UpdatesYay I got the styleswitcher working!!! It's a JavaScript, so don't expect much. In other news, we have reaffiliated with Dark Dragons. I took off their button, but a recent visit after a wake-up e-mail made me. They are now back with new colors and a new style. That old button I had on isn't even there, meaning that they've changed, resulting in our reaffiliation. Behind the Scenes 8.28.08 Sorry, I forgot this for a bit but let's get started. What will be in this edition of Behind the Scenes:
Now let's get started. FreeHostia hasn't been working. The web-based file manager was my website life... allowing me to do so much. Since I couldn't go onto the FreeHostia website, I needed a replacement. Luckily, thanks to Piplup-Princess, I had learned long ago about a "Net2FTP" and it was exactly like the file manager. The latter will be discussed next. Anyways, FreeHostia failed. What's wrong? Net2FTP and all other web based FTPs are exactly like FreeHostia's file manager. Thing is that FreeHostia has a separate URL for every file and directory, since it is their own people they're hosting. Apparently, FTPs are only to show the information from their own servers, so they have the same page for every file. This makes it extremely slow. Still, FreeHostia is down, but not all hosted sites. JavaScript's demand is rising quick. Our website uses it to protect content. We will soon use it to display our affiliate buttons. We use it for the styleswitcher. How shameful is it to turn that off and happily browse the site? It is an insult to the affiliates. For any page, there will be a rule for you having to have JavaScript on. If not, you'll see a blank white page. Anyways, JavaScript's demands are rising. Be very careful to have it on. There's no reason to turn it off in the first place. Just keep it on and you'll be fine... hopefully ;) Updated ~Behind the Scenes New ~Styleswitcher ~Reaffiliation All for now,
Cultred Let's Use JavaScript NowPosted by Cultred on 2008-08-27 18:24:00 UTC in category Website UpdatesI tried my best for each type of PHP styleswitcher I could find. Neither worked. I used EeveesHQ, PokeNova, and another non-Pokémon website that had one up. Still, no success. Now that we have to use the JavaScript Switcher, I will warn you about the problems:
Sucks right? Oh well, I'll start working on it now. Styleswitcher...?Posted by Cultred on 2008-08-24 17:53:36 UTC in category Website UpdatesWell I found out how to make a PHP Styleswitcher, and there's mainly all benefit for them. Problem is that it only works in the main directory. To view the Charizard style, click here and the switcher should work. I'll see what to do, so don't worry. | ||||
